The birth of a new Professional Event Management designation: First cohort awarded Certified Event Architecture Practitioner (CEAP)
A historic milestone has been reached in the professionalisation of event management in Africa with the formal awarding of the Certified Event Architecture Practitioner (CEAP) designation to the first graduating cohort of the Event Architecture® Principles of Event Management in Practice (EAPoEMiP) programme. Following the official release of final academic marks, candidates who successfully met the programme’s rigorous academic, professional, and competency-based requirements have now been conferred the CEAP designation, a lifelong professional credential recognising excellence in applied event management, tactical event design, and professional practice.
The EAPoEMiP programme, developed by the School for the Art & Science of Event Management (a division of Conference Consultancy South Africa), represents a new generation professional development model aligned to international standards for professional event management, competency-based education, and real-world practice. The 9-module programme integrates the international event eco-system, experiential design, human resources, project scoping (unique to this programme) & management, financial planning, facility & service specification and procurement, risk & sustainability, stakeholder engagement, and event execution into a single coherent 26-week learning journey, designed for working professionals.
Quality assurance of the online learning environment and platform is provided by members of the Learning Technologies Unit from the Department of MSTeD, Faculty of Education, University of Johannesburg. “This designation is a symbol of excellence. Candidates had to achieve 75% or more to qualify for the designation by completing 156 activities that built 34 event organiser competencies and 123 skill-sets. In addition, this designation is a hallmark of demonstrated event organiser confidence and perseverance, the ability to work accurately under pressure.” said Pieter Swart, CEPA, CMP, CMM, Founder and Managing Director of Conference Consultancy South Africa and Lead Instructor of the programme.

Architecture Practitioners sets the foundation for a new professional pathway in our industry. They connect and collaborate with fellow CEAPs across Africa, and beyond, on a mutual understanding of international event management standards.”
Setting a New Professional Standard
The CEAP designation is awarded only to candidates who demonstrate a high level of:
Mastery of core professional event management competencies
Applied project, financial, and risk planning and management capabilities
Professional and ethical judgement
Alignment with international event management practices and standards
Competence across the full event value chain
Graduates of the programme are now formally entitled to use the CEAP designation in
professional correspondence, industry platforms, and credentials, the new benchmark of
professional recognition within the African and international events ecosystem.
First Cohort that made History
The inaugural cohort represents the founding class of the CEAP professional community. As the first graduates of this designation globally, they carry both the honour and responsibility of shaping its reputation, standards, and professional legacy. “They were the first to walk this road, the first to test the framework, and the first to prove the model,” Swart added. “Every future cohort will build on the path they created.”
